Promotional & advertising umbrellas

Bulk umbrellas for campaigns, corporate gifting and events. Margins per unit are the thinnest of our five categories — but a distributor running quarterly campaigns is the most dependable reorder pattern in this trade, which is why it is worth building a pipeline on.

Custom orders only — and client work stays confidential. Nothing on this site is held in stock or sold as-is: every umbrella here was built to one buyer’s specification. The photographs show construction and finishing our cluster produces, but we do not publish client programmes — names, artwork, volumes and tooling stay under NDA, including from your competitors. If you want proof, ask us: we will describe comparable work — sector, volume band, season — without naming anyone.

Rib length is measured per rib from tip to tip when open. The 23" three-fold is the volume workhorse of this category.

Formats

Choosing a format

The format decision is usually about how the recipient carries it, not how it looks on a shelf.

3-fold

The default. Fits a bag, ships efficiently, and is what most corporate gifting programmes specify.

5-fold

Compacts smaller than a 3-fold and is positioned as a premium gift item. Higher unit cost.

Straight

Cheapest per unit and the sturdiest. Chosen for events, golf days and outdoor activations.

Mini capsule

Closes into a case. Retail-friendly and popular as a branded gift with a lower price perception.

Printing

Where the logo goes

A promotional umbrella carries a mark in up to four places. Most programmes use one or two; using all four is a design decision rather than a default.

  • Canopy panel — the highest-visibility position; one panel or all panels
  • Tie or belt — visible when the umbrella is closed
  • Handle — pad print or moulded, depending on material
  • Sleeve or pouch — carries the mark when the item is stored
Send artwork early

Artwork approval is the single most common cause of a missed campaign date. Send vector files and Pantone references with the enquiry rather than after the quotation.

Packaging

Packing options for your channel

Retail, gifting and event distribution each need a different packing spec. Tell us which channel, because packing is quoted as its own line and is cheaper to specify now than to change later.

Bulk plain

Polybag and plain carton. Lowest cost, used for event distribution and internal programmes.

Printed sleeve

Branded sleeve or box for gifting. Adds unit cost but changes how the item is received.

Retail ready

Barcode, header card, hangtag and carton marking to your retailer's specification.

Timing

Working backwards from the campaign date

Promotional orders fail on calendar, not on capability. Here is the realistic sequence for a first order.

Week 1

Enquiry and quotation

Specification, artwork, quantity and destination confirmed. Indicative pricing and MOQ returned.

Week 2–3

Sampling

Sample built to your artwork and specification. Courier transit is on top of build time.

Week 4

Approval and deposit

Sample signed off, deposit paid, production slot booked.

Week 5–9

Production and inspection

Bulk production with progress updates, then pre-shipment inspection with photos before balance.

Week 10–14

Shipping and arrival

Loading at Ningbo, transit to your port, then customs clearance on your side.

Season matters

Lead times extend in the run-up to Q4 gifting and again before the northern spring season. If your date is fixed, book the slot earlier than the maths suggests.

Reference

Printed umbrellas in use

Three printed builds worth looking at before you send artwork. What changes the price is panel count and how many colours sit on each panel.

FAQ

Promotional umbrella questions

Why is the MOQ higher than for other categories?

Printing set-up and fabric cutting are fixed costs spread over the run, and unit prices in this category are low to begin with. Below roughly 500 pieces the set-up cost dominates the unit price.

Can you ship directly to our end customer?

Yes, drop shipment and neutral packaging without our branding can be arranged. Tell us at quotation stage because it affects packing and document handling.

Do you keep our artwork confidential?

Yes. Artwork and brand files are treated as confidential and are shared with the production floor only to the extent needed to make the item. An NDA can be signed before sampling.

Can we reorder the same item later?

Yes, and this is where the category pays off. We keep the approved sample, spec sheet and artwork on file so a reorder does not restart the sampling stage.

Pricing

What actually moves the unit price

Materials are typically 60–80% of the cost of a custom umbrella, so specification — not negotiation — decides most of your landed price. These are the levers you control, and we itemise every one of them in your quotation so you can compare suppliers line by line.

Ranges reflect published umbrella-industry cost breakdowns and are indicative, not a quotation. Buyers with a fixed budget usually get the best result by spending on ribs and fabric first, and simplifying printing and packing.

Sampling

Hold it before you commit

A pre-production sample is the cheapest way to de-risk a custom programme. You see the fabric, the frame, the print and the finish in your own hand — and you approve the exact build that then goes into bulk.

7–10 days

Standard pre-production sample once artwork is confirmed. A new frame development or custom-dyed fabric takes 14 days or more, and we tell you which applies before you pay.

Fee credited back

The sample charge is deducted from your first bulk order. For a programme that goes ahead, sampling effectively costs you nothing.

What we need to start

A drawing, a reference photo or a target specification. Artwork can follow — vector is preferred, but we work from whatever you already have.
