FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions buyers ask before a first order, answered directly. Where an answer depends on the item, we say so rather than giving a number that will not hold.

01

Orders & minimum quantities

What is your minimum order quantity?

Plan on 500–1,000 pieces per design for custom work. Where you use stock canopy colours with straightforward screen printing, 300 is usually workable — expect the unit price to reflect the short run — and full custom printing, bespoke frames or dyed-to-order fabric sit at the upper end. The driver is setup cost: printing screens and cutting preparation cost the same whether the run is 300 or 3,000, so the per-unit figure falls as volume rises. We confirm the actual minimum for your design at quotation rather than after you have invested time in artwork.

Can I mix colours or sizes in one order?

Usually yes, subject to a minimum per colour or per size. Tell us the split you want and we will confirm what the factory accepts, because mixing affects how fabric is cut.

Do you accept small trial orders?

Yes for standard models, priced accordingly. A trial order is usually the right way to start a relationship, and we treat it as a step towards a repeat programme rather than as a nuisance.

Can I mix product categories in one container?

Yes. Consolidation is a practical advantage of working with one partner rather than several factories, and it lowers per-unit freight on smaller programmes.

Do you sell ready-made or stock umbrellas?

No. We take custom orders only — there is no stock programme and nothing is shipped from a warehouse. The models on this site show what the cluster can build; every order is produced to your specification, with final spec, MOQ and price confirmed once your requirements are fixed.

Will my design be shown to other buyers?

Never without your written permission. A style developed with you is not reused, not quoted as a reference and not produced for anyone else. The photographs on this site are reference pictures of items made for the open market — not other customers' designs.

02

Samples

Do you charge for samples?

Yes. Samples are charged and the cost is normally credited against your first bulk order. Courier is billed at cost. Charging keeps sample requests serious on both sides.

How long does a sample take?

Typically 7–12 days to build a standard model once specification and artwork are confirmed. Courier transit is additional. Custom tooling or dyed-to-order fabric extends it, and we tell you before you pay.

Can I get a plain sample without my logo?

Yes, and it is often faster. A plain sample confirms fabric, frame and construction while your artwork is still being finalised, then a printed sample follows.

What artwork do you need?

Vector files — AI, EPS or PDF — with Pantone references for spot colours. High-resolution raster files work for digital print but not for clean screen output.

03

Pricing & payment

What payment terms apply?

30% deposit with the order and 70% balance against bill of lading copy is standard for a new relationship. Samples are paid in full before production starts. Other terms can be discussed once there is order history.

Which currencies and channels can I pay through?

Bank transfer to a company account in USD is standard. Other arrangements can be discussed. We confirm account details only through the pro forma invoice, never through a changed email thread.

Why do you ask for a target price?

Because it lets us propose a specification that hits it. Without a target we can quote anything; with one we can tell you honestly whether it is achievable and where the compromise would be.

How long is a quotation valid?

Usually 30 days, because fabric and component costs move. The validity period is stated on the quotation itself.

04

Production & lead time

What is the production lead time?

Commonly 25–35 days after sample approval for standard umbrella models, and 30–45 days for outdoor structures. Peak season extends this, particularly in the run-up to Q4 and before the northern spring season.

Will I get progress updates?

Yes. We send weekly progress updates during production, and photographs at the points that matter — first pieces, mid-run and pre-shipment.

What if my delivery date is fixed?

Tell us the date at enquiry stage. Booking a production slot early is the single most effective thing you can do, and it is why we ask for delivery windows rather than just quantities.

Can production be repeated later at the same quality?

Yes. We retain the approved reference sample, spec sheet and artwork, so a reorder does not restart the sampling stage or drift from the original build.

05

Quality & compliance

What do you inspect before shipment?

Finished goods sampled to an agreed AQL, covering dimensions, fabric, print quality, stitching, frame and mechanism function, finish and packing. You receive a written report with photographs before the balance payment is due. Full detail is on the quality page.

Can you arrange third-party inspection?

Yes, at your cost, and we share the report whether it is favourable or not. For a first order with a new supplier it is usually worth the fee.

Can you provide certificates for my market?

We provide standard export documents with every shipment. Testing to a specific standard — fabric composition, colour fastness, UV performance, water column or restricted substances — is arranged through a third-party laboratory at cost. Tell us the standard you need at quotation stage.

What happens if the goods are defective?

Send photographs, quantity affected and batch reference within the agreed window. We assess against the approved reference sample and the inspection report, then agree a resolution in writing — replacement parts, credit against the next order, or re-production.

06

Shipping & logistics

Which port do you ship from?

Ningbo is the standard loading port, about 1.5 hours by road from the cluster. Shanghai can be arranged if your routing prefers it.

Which Incoterms do you work with?

FOB Ningbo is the default. EXW and CIF can be quoted on request. State your preference in the enquiry so pricing is comparable.

Can you work with my freight forwarder?

Yes. If you have a forwarder and a rate, we work to their booking instructions. If you do not, we can quote freight through ours.

What documents come with the shipment?

Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading as standard, plus certificate of origin where required, packing photographs and the inspection report.

What HS codes apply?

Umbrellas and sunshades fall under HS 6601, and tents and camping shades under HS 6306. Confirm the correct sub-code for your product with your broker, because duty rates differ by destination and by sub-code.

07

Components & parts

Do you sell components without finished umbrellas?

Yes. Ribs, shafts, fabric, handles, tips, mechanisms, bases and trims are supplied on their own — for assembly elsewhere, for spare parts programmes, or to fill a gap in your own supply. See components & parts.

Can you match a part from a sample?

Yes, and it is the most reliable starting point. Send the part, tell us the volume, and we will measure it and quote against the actual item.

What minimum quantities apply to parts?

Generally higher than for finished umbrellas, because component runs are priced by machine time and material batch. Moulded and plated parts start highest; fabric and cut tube are usually more flexible. Confirm per item.

Can spare parts ship with my finished order?

Yes, and it is usually the cheapest way to stock them — the freight is already paid, and heavy parts use the weight capacity that umbrellas leave unused.

08

Standards, testing & documentation

Which standards do you test to?

By default the Chinese national product standard for umbrellas, which sets requirements for rain resistance, wind resistance, UV protection where claimed, corrosion resistance, cycle life and seam quality. Where your market requires it, we work to the European physical safety standard or to your own protocol. The applicable standard belongs in the order, not in a message — see standards & compliance.

Can you provide a test report?

Yes, either a factory report or an independent laboratory report, at cost where a third party is involved. Ask at quotation stage so testing is planned into the schedule rather than added after production.

What is the difference between UPF test methods?

The method changes the number. Some test new, dry fabric; others require repeated laundering and light exposure first, which produces a lower but more realistic rating. A UPF 50+ claim means at least 98% of UV is blocked, but only the method tells you whether it still holds after use.

Do umbrellas need CE marking?

Hand-held umbrellas are generally not in a category requiring CE marking, though buyers still ask for it and suppliers still print it. Confirm what your market actually requires before requesting a mark — applying one incorrectly creates its own problem. The UK equivalent is UKCA.

Which HS code applies to my order?

Finished umbrellas fall under heading 6601, split between garden umbrellas, telescopic-shaft umbrellas and other umbrellas. Parts fall under 6603, with frames specifically named and everything else in the residual code. Fabric sleeves and pouches are classified separately, not as parts. Confirm both export and import classification with your broker.

What documents come with a shipment?

Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading as standard, plus certificate of origin and insurance where applicable, and any test report you specified. See export & logistics for the full list and who issues each one.

09

Working with us

Are you a factory or a trading company?

We are a sourcing partner based inside the cluster rather than a single factory. We will tell you which factory makes your item, and you are welcome to audit it. Being explicit about this is more useful to you than claiming to be both.

How do you protect my design and brand?

Artwork, drawings and brand files are treated as confidential and shared with the production floor only to the extent needed to make the item. We sign an NDA before receiving drawings, and we will not display your logo or product publicly without written permission.

How quickly do you reply to an enquiry?

Within one business day. If your enquiry includes quantity, specification and destination, the reply will include indicative pricing rather than just a request for more information.

Can I visit?

Yes — factory visits in the Songxia cluster can be arranged, and a live video walkthrough is available if travel is not practical.
