Category 04

Beach umbrellas & sun shelters

This is the category where our umbrella know-how transfers directly. A beach umbrella is a large umbrella with a different base problem — sand instead of a weighted stand — and the parts that matter are the anchor, the lower pole and the vent, not the fabric.

Custom orders only. Nothing here is held in stock or sold as-is — the photographs are reference pictures showing styles the cluster can make, not other customers' designs.

Specifications

What a beach umbrella actually needs

The build below is what the cluster produces without tooling. Anything outside it is still possible, but expect a sampling stage and, for a new anchor or frame, a tooling charge.

ItemTypical rangeWhy it matters
Canopy diameter1.8 m / 2.0 m / 2.2 m / 2.4 m2.0–2.2 m is the beach sweet spot: shade for two, still liftable
Canopy shapeRound; hexagonal on requestHexagonal catches less wind and shades more of the usable area
FabricPolyester 160T–190T; solution-dyed acrylic on requestSolution-dyed holds colour far better than piece-dyed in salt and sun
UV protectionUPF 50+ availableNeeds test support — ask for it at quotation stage, not after
Ribs6 or 8 ribs, steel or fiberglassFiberglass resists corrosion; steel is cheaper and stiffer
PoleTwo-piece, steel or aluminium, 32–38 mmTwo-piece is standard so it travels in a bag
AnchorScrew or pointed end; sand pockets on sheltersThis is the beach-specific part — never quote it as an afterthought
TiltCollar tilt or push-button tiltConfirm which mechanism if your retail channel specifies one
VentSingle or double wind ventRecommended everywhere coastal; a vented canopy survives gusts
Carry bagShoulder strap, printed if requiredThe bag is where most beach-umbrella brands put their logo
MOQ200–500 pcs per colour per sizeConfirmed per item after specification is fixed
Lead time25–35 days after sample approvalExtends in peak season, roughly December to March

Typical values for standard models. Your quotation and pro forma invoice define the order.

Beach umbrellas

Reference configurations

Nine beach builds the cluster produces routinely. Canopy print, rib count and anchor type are the three decisions that move unit cost the most — everything else is a colour choice.

Rainbow striped beach umbrella fully open

Rainbow stripe canopy — the classic beach silhouette, and the safest first order

Floral printed beach umbrella with pole

Printed canopy — panel count decides how a repeat pattern lines up

Pink and blue striped beach umbrella with pole

Two-tone stripe — a second colourway without a second fabric

Green and blue printed beach umbrella with pole

Dyed-to-order print — usually the reason a higher MOQ applies

Watermelon print beach umbrella with pole

All-over print — digital printing is the practical route at low quantity

Cream beach umbrella with fringed edge and wooden pole

Fringed valance — the boho look that sells through resort retail

Black beach umbrella with tasselled edge

Tasselled edge — a finishing detail that reads as premium at retail

Beige beach umbrella with fringed valance and wooden pole

Beige with fringe — the resort colourway, and a heavier pole to match

Beach umbrella canopy seen from underneath showing the rib layout

Underside view — vents, rib count and pole diameter are all visible from here

Pop-up shelters

Sun tents and beach shelters

Speed of set-up is the specification that sells these, followed by packed size. Both are measurable, so they belong in your enquiry rather than in the marketing copy.

Blue pop-up beach shelter with a white floor sheet

Floor sheet — keeps sand out of the seating area, and adds packed weight

Blue and white pop-up beach shelter with open front

Open front — the cheapest format and the fastest to set up

Yellow and grey pop-up beach shelter

Silver-coated inner — what actually brings the shade temperature down

Blue pop-up beach shelter with mesh windows

Mesh windows — ventilation without giving up shade

Blue and pink pop-up beach shelter with mesh door

Mesh door panel — a common spec on resort and rental fleets

Blue pop-up beach shelter with a yellow accent panel

Colour-blocked shelter — packed size and set-up time are the two numbers to fix

Pop-up beach shelter

Folds flat and springs open. Usually silver-coated for sun protection, with pegs or sand pockets for hold. Set-up in under a minute is the selling point.

What we check before release

Frame spring tension, coating adhesion, peg count against the footprint, and whether the packed bag still fits after the first fold.

What we will not do

Quote a UPF or wind figure we cannot support with a test report. If you need one, testing is arranged through a third-party laboratory at cost.

Standards

What beach products are measured against

Two claims come up repeatedly on beach products: UV protection and wind behaviour. Both are testable, and both are claimed far more often than they are tested.

StandardMarketWhat it covers
UPF 50+ (AS/NZS 4399)Australia, New Zealand, international retailUltraviolet protection factor for fabrics — the number behind a sun-protection claim. Requires a test report, not a coating description
GB/T 23147-2018ChinaUmbrella product requirements — canopy fabric, frame strength and opening mechanism
GB 31892-2015ChinaRibs and shafts — bending strength and corrosion resistance
EN ISO 5912Europe / internationalWind stability and water resistance where a shelter is sold as a tent

Referenced standards as published. Confirm the applicable edition with your laboratory.

UPF is a fabric property, not a product promise

A UPF 50+ canopy loses the rating if it is wet, stretched, or if the weave is opened by heavy printing. If the claim matters to your channel, ask for the fabric test report and quote the fabric, not the finished umbrella.

Sourcing

Where these are actually made

Beach umbrellas come from the same umbrella cluster we work in every day. That is the honest reason we can support development here: the parts are the same parts, only the anchor changes.

  • Beach umbrellas and sun tents — Shangyu and the surrounding umbrella cluster
  • Camping tents and gazebos — partner production, covered on the tents page
  • Combined shipments — consolidated for loading at Ningbo
Why we mention it

A partner who claims to make everything in one factory is usually a trading company with less control than it implies. Naming where each item is made lets you audit it.

FAQ

Beach category questions

Can you support a UPF 50+ claim?

We can source fabric specified to that level, and testing can be arranged through a third-party laboratory at cost. Ask for it at quotation stage so the fabric and the documentation are ordered together.

What anchor should I ask for?

A screw or pointed end for sand, and a separate weighted base if the same umbrella will also be sold for garden use. Two anchors on one pole usually means a tooling charge — check before you commit.

Do beach umbrellas ship with tents in one container?

Yes. Consolidation is one of the practical advantages of working with a partner rather than placing separate orders with separate factories.

What about spare parts and repairs?

Poles, anchors, canopies and bags can be ordered separately for most models. Ask at quotation stage if after-sales support is part of your programme.
