Beach umbrellas & sun shelters
This is the category where our umbrella know-how transfers directly. A beach umbrella is a large umbrella with a different base problem — sand instead of a weighted stand — and the parts that matter are the anchor, the lower pole and the vent, not the fabric.
Custom orders only. Nothing here is held in stock or sold as-is — the photographs are reference pictures showing styles the cluster can make, not other customers' designs.
What a beach umbrella actually needs
The build below is what the cluster produces without tooling. Anything outside it is still possible, but expect a sampling stage and, for a new anchor or frame, a tooling charge.
| Item | Typical range | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Canopy diameter | 1.8 m / 2.0 m / 2.2 m / 2.4 m | 2.0–2.2 m is the beach sweet spot: shade for two, still liftable |
| Canopy shape | Round; hexagonal on request | Hexagonal catches less wind and shades more of the usable area |
| Fabric | Polyester 160T–190T; solution-dyed acrylic on request | Solution-dyed holds colour far better than piece-dyed in salt and sun |
| UV protection | UPF 50+ available | Needs test support — ask for it at quotation stage, not after |
| Ribs | 6 or 8 ribs, steel or fiberglass | Fiberglass resists corrosion; steel is cheaper and stiffer |
| Pole | Two-piece, steel or aluminium, 32–38 mm | Two-piece is standard so it travels in a bag |
| Anchor | Screw or pointed end; sand pockets on shelters | This is the beach-specific part — never quote it as an afterthought |
| Tilt | Collar tilt or push-button tilt | Confirm which mechanism if your retail channel specifies one |
| Vent | Single or double wind vent | Recommended everywhere coastal; a vented canopy survives gusts |
| Carry bag | Shoulder strap, printed if required | The bag is where most beach-umbrella brands put their logo |
| MOQ | 200–500 pcs per colour per size | Confirmed per item after specification is fixed |
| Lead time | 25–35 days after sample approval | Extends in peak season, roughly December to March |
Typical values for standard models. Your quotation and pro forma invoice define the order.
Reference configurations
Nine beach builds the cluster produces routinely. Canopy print, rib count and anchor type are the three decisions that move unit cost the most — everything else is a colour choice.
Rainbow stripe canopy — the classic beach silhouette, and the safest first order
Printed canopy — panel count decides how a repeat pattern lines up
Two-tone stripe — a second colourway without a second fabric
Dyed-to-order print — usually the reason a higher MOQ applies
All-over print — digital printing is the practical route at low quantity
Fringed valance — the boho look that sells through resort retail
Tasselled edge — a finishing detail that reads as premium at retail
Beige with fringe — the resort colourway, and a heavier pole to match
Underside view — vents, rib count and pole diameter are all visible from here
Sun tents and beach shelters
Speed of set-up is the specification that sells these, followed by packed size. Both are measurable, so they belong in your enquiry rather than in the marketing copy.
Floor sheet — keeps sand out of the seating area, and adds packed weight
Open front — the cheapest format and the fastest to set up
Silver-coated inner — what actually brings the shade temperature down
Mesh windows — ventilation without giving up shade
Mesh door panel — a common spec on resort and rental fleets
Colour-blocked shelter — packed size and set-up time are the two numbers to fix
Pop-up beach shelter
Folds flat and springs open. Usually silver-coated for sun protection, with pegs or sand pockets for hold. Set-up in under a minute is the selling point.
What we check before release
Frame spring tension, coating adhesion, peg count against the footprint, and whether the packed bag still fits after the first fold.
What we will not do
Quote a UPF or wind figure we cannot support with a test report. If you need one, testing is arranged through a third-party laboratory at cost.
What beach products are measured against
Two claims come up repeatedly on beach products: UV protection and wind behaviour. Both are testable, and both are claimed far more often than they are tested.
| Standard | Market | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| UPF 50+ (AS/NZS 4399) | Australia, New Zealand, international retail | Ultraviolet protection factor for fabrics — the number behind a sun-protection claim. Requires a test report, not a coating description |
| GB/T 23147-2018 | China | Umbrella product requirements — canopy fabric, frame strength and opening mechanism |
| GB 31892-2015 | China | Ribs and shafts — bending strength and corrosion resistance |
| EN ISO 5912 | Europe / international | Wind stability and water resistance where a shelter is sold as a tent |
Referenced standards as published. Confirm the applicable edition with your laboratory.
A UPF 50+ canopy loses the rating if it is wet, stretched, or if the weave is opened by heavy printing. If the claim matters to your channel, ask for the fabric test report and quote the fabric, not the finished umbrella.
Where these are actually made
Beach umbrellas come from the same umbrella cluster we work in every day. That is the honest reason we can support development here: the parts are the same parts, only the anchor changes.
- Beach umbrellas and sun tents — Shangyu and the surrounding umbrella cluster
- Camping tents and gazebos — partner production, covered on the tents page
- Combined shipments — consolidated for loading at Ningbo
A partner who claims to make everything in one factory is usually a trading company with less control than it implies. Naming where each item is made lets you audit it.
Beach category questions
Can you support a UPF 50+ claim?
We can source fabric specified to that level, and testing can be arranged through a third-party laboratory at cost. Ask for it at quotation stage so the fabric and the documentation are ordered together.
What anchor should I ask for?
A screw or pointed end for sand, and a separate weighted base if the same umbrella will also be sold for garden use. Two anchors on one pole usually means a tooling charge — check before you commit.
Do beach umbrellas ship with tents in one container?
Yes. Consolidation is one of the practical advantages of working with a partner rather than placing separate orders with separate factories.
What about spare parts and repairs?
Poles, anchors, canopies and bags can be ordered separately for most models. Ask at quotation stage if after-sales support is part of your programme.
